Amy originates from Freshwater, Placentia and is a Registered Physiotherapist and owner of Physio & Co. She graduated from Memorial University of NL with a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology and then went on to complete her Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS.
Upon graduation, Amy worked for a private Physiotherapy clinic for two years. After her first year, she decided to open a small part-time practice in her hometown while still continued to work and learn from her co-workers who were more experienced Physiotherapists. In 2010, she opened Fresh Health and Wellness in Bay Bulls, NL and has split her time between the two locations which continues to this day.
Amy’s interest lies deeply in orthopaedic injuries with low back pain being her particular passion. She is a fully certified Level 3 Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapist with the Canadian Orthopaedic Division and has completed many other courses on the Sacro-iliac and Hip region, Acupuncture, Running Injuries, and K-Taping. In addition, Amy travelled to Costa Rica in 2018 for an intensive 2-week Yoga Teacher training and became a certified Yoga Instructor which she truly enjoys when time permits.
When she is not at work, Amy can be found travelling the world to discover all the beauties that other cultures provide. She loves to meet new people, see new places and uncover a place that few have been. Amy is also a true lover of many sports but certainly basketball, as a player and coach, captured her heart at an early age. She graduated from MUN after playing 5 years of varsity basketball, winning the AUS Championship in 2000. She has coached hundreds of kids from the junior high to the University Level and everything in between and has loved every minute of it. She also is a frequent runner and attends yoga to keep fit.
Physiotherapy has been Amy’s goal since tearing her ACL in 1999 playing basketball at MUN. During that time, she was introduced to the rehab science and was hooked. The immediate and essential impact it had on her physically was amazing, however equally as important was the mental aspect of encouragement and reassurance provided by her Physiotherapist. This initially tragic injury led her to follow the path to become a Physio. Not one day has there been a regret for her profession or life path. Her goal is to share as much knowledge and guidance to the people of our clinic communities and to get people living their best life.
